Formerly Wingnut & Co., Asuka Mew Takada 高田 飛鳥 and Anna Miller-Yeaman started their pottery business in 2013.
Asuka is the primary craftsperson for Takada Kōbō. He was raised in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan and is influenced by historical potteries in this area. In 2025, Asuka and Anna built a new workshop in Trentham, milling storm fallen eucalyptus for the framework. Their workshop (kōbō) and house is off-grid, powered by a solar and battery system, with rain water for production.
All pottery available in their online shop is made by Asuka. The majority of his pieces are high fired stoneware. Glaze chemistry is central to his practice and he formulates all Takada Kōbō glazes. Asuka blends & recycles commercially available Australian clay, as well as collecting and processing local clay. Asuka and Anna also collect local fallen eucalyptus (Messmate, Peppermint) and acacia (Blackwood) to heat their space and the wood ash is used in glaze recipes.
Asuka & Anna also offer a curated collection of complementary Japanese products. This selection focuses on Kyushu makers but also includes craftspeople, designers and producers from other parts of Japan renowned for speciality crafts and goods. All materials used to pack orders are recycled/ recyclable or compostable and no plastics are used.
